2008 Annual Photo Contest

Wednesday, September 10th the annual meeting was held at the YCC hall of the Moosehorn Wildlife Refuge.  A pot luck supper was enjoyed and the highlight of the evening was the display of over a hundred and fifty photos submitted to the “Take Your Best Shot!” photo contest.  All the photos entered were on display.

The group would like to extend their appreciation to the sponsors who helped to make this year’s photo contest such a complete success.  Specifically David Johnson and Johnson’s Hardware for granting the purchase of the 1st prize kayak and accessories at cost, the Calais and Machias Bangor Savings banks for the startup accounts and piggy banks,  VIP Auto Parts for monetary support and the Moosehorn Wildlife Refuge for use of their facilities and the man hours donated by their staff.

The winners of the contest were;

1st Place       Zachary Johnson’s photo “Golden Grasshopper”

2nd Place      Joseph Tibbetts’ photo “Beached Seal”

3rd Place      Jo-Ann Caron’s photo “They went that way”

Honorable mention Kenneth Powers’ photo “Juvenile Red Fox”

Honorable mention          Brenda Lozada’s photo “Eagle Dancing”

Zachary received the 1st place prize of a kayak, life jacket and paddle.  Joseph received the 2nd place prize of a 2 in 1 tripod/monopod.  Jo-Ann received the third place prize of a monopod.  It was certainly a pleasure to present the 1st and 3rd place winners with their prizes at the meeting and arrangements have been made to get the 2nd place prize to Joseph.  Both honorable mention winners received a $25 Bangor Savings startup account and a piggy bank.

After the winners were announced and while Friends members and guests were enjoying the potluck supper we were entertained with a slide show presented by Ray Brown the Deputy Project leader of the Moosehorn Refuge showing the past year’s projects.

The Friends group would like to extend their appreciation to all those who submitted photos to the contest.  Everyone who submitted a photo has been granted a year’s membership to the Friends of the Moosehorn group.
